One prompt goes in.
Several searches come out. You see each one.

When an assistant answers a question about your market, it runs its own searches first. Verand records the ones the answer reports, shows them per prompt, and turns each into a brief you haven't written.

Promote a sub-query

A question the engine asked
becomes one you watch.

Every fan-out row carries a Track button. It adds that exact string as its own monitored prompt, scored like any other from the next scan on. Willowdale did it with one of these: it runs at 6% visibility and position #1.3, and it is the only prompt in the group with no type or funnel tag, because a tracked fan-out query arrives with just its text and its topic.

In the response

Beside the sources
that answer actually used.

Open any recorded answer and the fan-out sits under its citations, in the same drawer. This is the case worth finding: the answer named Willowdale and cited nobody from it, while two of the five sources it did cite belong to one competitor. The fan-out is where it went looking.

Each sub-query
is a page you haven't written.

Fan-out from every prompt and every scan collapses into one list, ordered by how many of your prompts produced it, each carrying the engines that issued it. Create brief opens Topic Research seeded with the query. A rival's brand query is dropped as navigation; your own is kept, because what AI asks about you is the point.

The follow-up questions AI engines ask about your topic

While answering one of your monitored prompts, an engine issues its own sub-queries. These are the real questions being asked around you, and each one is a page nobody has written for you yet.

Reported, not guessed

Verand does not predict
what an assistant searched.

The list arrives inside the engine's own response, next to the answer text and the citations, and is stored exactly as it came back. Nothing is modelled, inferred from the citations or written by another AI. Where a response carries none, both surfaces say so instead of filling the gap.

Query fan-out · 0 sub-queries

No fan-out captured: fan-out comes from the Responses-path engines (Perplexity, Claude).

No fanout queries yet. They appear after an AI Search Visibility scan on prompts run through engines that expose sub-queries (ChatGPT, Claude).

How it works

From one question to the six behind it.

Four steps, and the middle one is the whole argument: it is reported, not reconstructed.

Questions

What people ask about where this comes from.

Who reports it, which assistants do, and what it costs to act on.

Does Verand predict these, or does the engine report them?

The engine reports them. The sub-queries arrive as a field on the same response that carries the answer text and the citations, and Verand stores the array exactly as it came back. Nothing is modelled, reverse-engineered from the citations, or written by another AI. That is why a response carrying none shows an empty state rather than a guess.

Which assistants return fan-out?

Perplexity and Claude, every time, because both are read through the response path. ChatGPT and Gemini return it only when their primary path comes back empty and the scan falls back to that same response path, so their fan-out is real but intermittent. Google AI Overviews and AI Mode never return it. Your fan-out volume therefore follows your engine coverage, which is the thing that changes by plan.

Why do so many fan-out queries have no search volume?

Because they are conversational phrasings, not terms people type into a search box. Get keyword metrics pulls volume, difficulty and intent on demand, and when a query has none the card says so in those words rather than showing a zero. Volume tends to appear only once several fan-out queries cluster into one head topic.

Why are near-identical queries listed separately?

The list dedupes on exact text, lowercased, and nothing else. “accredited investors Texas Georgia” and “accredited passive investors Texas Georgia” stay two rows because they are two phrasings the engines really used. Collapsing them would hide the thing you came for, which is the wording.

What does Track cost me?

It adds one active prompt, and prompts are pooled across every site on your account rather than granted per site. If the pool is full the add is refused and tells you so; pausing a prompt anywhere frees the slot at once. There are no overage charges on any plan.

Is fan-out on every plan?

Yes. Every routine and every check is on every plan, and fan-out is captured, shown in the prompt drawer and the response drawer, and listed in Opportunities on all of them. Plans differ by volume, sites and how many assistants you are scanned against, and that last one is what decides how much fan-out you see.

Query fanout

See the questions behind the question.

Your prompts are what you think buyers ask. Fan-out is what the assistant asked next, in its own words, and it is already in your account.
